evcc on the Moove Podcast by auto motor und sport

Moove Podcast cover featuring Michael Geers

Moove is the new mobility podcast by the German car magazine auto motor und sport. Hosts Luca Leicht and Gerd Stegmaier regularly talk about electric mobility, new vehicles and everything around the mobility of tomorrow.

I was a guest on the latest episode and explained how evcc brings together solar, wallbox, EV and home battery.

In the episode of a little over an hour, we talk about why devices from different manufacturers rarely talk to each other and what evcc does about it. We cover what it really takes to get started, how complicated the setup is and how reliable it runs in everyday use. We also talk about solar surplus charging, dynamic tariffs, heat pumps and batteries, the community behind the project and the sponsoring model. A bigger part is about missing vehicle APIs, cloud lock-in and bidirectional charging. We also look at how millions of decentralised devices could form a smarter energy system. At the end it gets personal: Ferrari or Tesla? Star Trek or Star Wars?

The episode is available as a podcast and as a video on YouTube (in German).

Thanks to Luca and Gerd for the invitation and the great conversation!
